A few weeks ago we posted Aubrey with his Mammoth sunflower 🌻 buds. Well, days after the picture Southeastern Georgia had pouring rain and winds, the stem was bent/broken in an area, so I added support. The flower continued to bloom, but not as large as previous blooms have been. I’ve never attempted to β€œSAVE” a sunflower in this manner before🌻but, it’s still beautiful.

Mammoth Sunflower

Aubrey grew this mammoth sunflower in a large pot, this possibly restricted the growth to about a third of its possible size if planted directly in the ground. He also planted two more sunflowers in the same pot and did not want to thin them out, so the fight for nutrients between 3 sunflowers could have played a role in the growth of this particular mammoth sunflower only reaching about four feet in height.

Here’s a photo of the Mammoth sunflower seeds we planted last week. These were planted alongside the already growing Mammoth sunflower, in a large ceramic pot that sits in our flower bed.

Dollar Store Mammoth sunflowers seeds

These Mammoth Sunflower seeds were purchased from The Dollar Tree and are not the same brand as the Ms. Mars seeds from the photo below. Aubrey noticed that Ms. Mars seeds are significantly smaller and darker than the Mammoth sunflower 🌻 seeds. We placed a penny next to the seeds as a size reference.

The Mammoth Sunflowers are expected to grow significantly larger than the Ms. Mars Sunflower seeds from the previous post, we are already seeing differences in the sprouts.

Here’s a photo of the Burpee Ms. Mars Sunflower seeds we planted a few days ago. We planted these in a small ceramic pot and then placed the pot on our front porch.

Aubrey noticed that these seeds are significantly smaller than the Mammoth sunflower 🌻 seeds he is used to. We placed a penny next to the seeds as a size reference. We will post a photo of our Mammoth sunflower seeds in a future post.

The Ms. Mars sunflowers are expected to grow significantly smaller than the Mammoth Sunflower and they bloom in a reddish shade rather than golden yellow.
